“I’ll print them eventually.”
I’ve said it. You’ve probably said it. And right now, somewhere in your camera roll, there are photos of your kids that you absolutely love, sandwiched between a screenshot of a grocery list and twenty-seven blurry pictures of the dog.
Here’s the gentle truth I’ve learned after years of creating family photo prints in Tuscaloosa and Northport: eventually almost never comes.
Not because they don’t care. Because life is full, the holidays are coming, and “order prints” keeps sliding to the bottom of the to-do list, right under “clean out the junk drawer.”
So let’s talk about why your family photos deserve more than your phone, and how to make it easy before Christmas.
“My kids really like to see photos of themselves all the time and even of other people in the family.”
They love flipping through our albums. They love walking down the hallway and pointing at photos of themselves and our family hanging on the wall. And sure, they like looking at pictures on my phone too. But they always come back to wanting something tangible, something they can hold onto and look at.
I think there’s something beautiful in that.
When a child sees their own face on the wall, next to their parents and siblings and grandparents, it tells them something without a single word: You belong here. You’re part of this family’s story.
A phone can’t do that. A phone gets put away. It locks. It needs a passcode and a charger. A photo on the wall is just there, every single day, quietly reminding your kids who they are and who loves them.

I hear this one sometimes: “Albums feel a little old-school, don’t they?”
I’d gently push back. An album isn’t about being traditional. It’s about being reachable.
“It can even be in an album, doesn’t have to be in a frame or anything like that, but just something tangible that you can grab and look at.”
An album lives on the coffee table or the bookshelf. Little hands can pull it down on a rainy afternoon. Grandparents can flip through it at Thanksgiving. Your kids can curl up next to you and ask, “Is that me? Was I really that little?”
No charging. No scrolling past forty duplicates. Just your family, page after page, exactly as you were.
There’s a quiet belief that framed family photos belong in big houses with grand staircases and twelve-foot ceilings.
Not true.
Photos should be displayed in our home like artwork.
That goes for any home. A rental with beige walls. A starter home where the toys outnumber the furniture. An apartment where the hallway is eight feet long. Your family is the most meaningful art you could ever hang, and it fits in every size of home.

You don’t need a designer or a weekend-long project. Here are a few easy places to start.
Hang a few frames a little lower than you normally would, right where your kids can see them on their way to brush their teeth or grab their shoes. They’ll stop and look more often than you’d expect.
That frame holding a photo from three haircuts ago? It’s ready for an update. Pop this year’s favorite into it, and tuck the old one into an album or keepsake box.
Not sure what size works above the couch, or how to arrange a grouping on the stairs? Just ask. Helping you figure out what will look beautiful in your actual home is one of my favorite parts of what I do.
Here’s something many parents don’t realize until it’s too late: where you print your photos really does matter.
Quick-print kiosks and drugstore printers aren’t color-matched to professional images. Skin tones can come out too orange or too pink. Soft whites can turn gray or yellow. The rich, warm tones you fell in love with in your gallery can look flat and muddy on thin paper that fades over time.
When you order through your gallery, your images are printed by a professional lab on quality materials, so what you hold in your hands matches what you loved on screen. And they’re made to last, so the photo on your wall now can still be on a wall when your kids have kids of their own.
These are heirloom images. They deserve heirloom printing.

If your parents or in-laws have been asking, “When are you going to send me some pictures of the grandbabies?“, consider this your sign.
A framed print or a small album of their grandkids is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give this Christmas. They don’t need another sweater or a candle. They want to see those little faces every morning with their coffee.
Order early, wrap it up, and watch them tear up a little. (They will. Grandparents always do.)
And if you’re sending holiday cards this year, you can order those right inside your gallery. Just give yourself a little extra time, since holiday mail moves slower than we’d like.
Or, if you didn’t get around to booking photos this year, purchasing a gift card for family photos to gift to the grandparents is always a great idea. I offer gift cards as well, and you can order those here.
Years from now, your kids won’t remember which filter you used or how many likes a post got. They’ll remember the album on the coffee table. The photo in the hallway they walked past every day. The framed print at Grandma’s house.
“It’s just something that’s really special to be able to have something to show, something physical and tangible that you can show of your family because this is your legacy.”
So this year, let’s get those photos off your phone and into your home, where they belong.
Thank you so much for reading, friend. If you’d like to see more real family moments from Tuscaloosa and Northport (and a few peeks at how I display photos in my own home), come follow along with me on Instagram.
Yes! This time of year, I keep galleries open through the end of the year so families have plenty of time to order for Christmas. Just email me and I’ll send you your link.
Framed art arrives ready to hang, either as a framed print or a framed canvas. Unframed canvas is a gallery-wrapped piece with a modern, frameless look. Loose, matted, and mounted prints are perfect for frames you already own, gifting, or tucking into albums.
Yes! Holiday cards are now available right inside your client gallery, using your favorite images from your session. They have a quick turnaround, but holiday mail can be slow, so I always recommend ordering sooner rather than later.
Prints can be ordered through Friday, Dec 11. Your proof gallery arrives about a week after your session. The sooner you send your favorites, the sooner your final edits are ready to order.
