Don’t Let Summer Blur Past You

A mom laughing as she lifts her giggling baby into the air near a backyard playset during a Tuscaloosa summer family photo session.

Summer slows down for no one.

We tell ourselves it will. We picture these long, lazy days stretching out in front of us, slow mornings and nothing on the calendar and plenty of time to just be together. And then somehow it’s the middle of July, the kids have grown an inch, and we’re not entirely sure where the last few weeks went.

It moves fast. Faster than we expect, every single year.

There’s something about a Tuscaloosa summer: the slow golden evenings down by the Riverwalk, the heat that finally breaks into a breeze and makes you want to hold onto it a little tighter. Those are exactly the moments I love to capture before fall rolls back in.

The season you’re in right now

Here’s the thing I keep coming back to:

The version of your family that exists this summer only exists this summer.

The toddler who still reaches up to be carried. The kid who’s lost three teeth and gained a new obsession. The way your whole crew piles onto one couch at the end of a long day. Next summer they’ll be a little bigger, a little more independent, a little further into their own becoming. That’s the beautiful, aching part of being a parent. They keep growing, exactly like they’re supposed to, and it goes so quickly.

You don’t need a perfectly planned day to hold onto it. You just need to notice it. The popsicle drips, the sandy feet, the way they laugh when dad chases them through the sprinkler. This is the good stuff. This is the right-now season, and it’s worth pressing pause on before it blurs into the next one.

A gentle nudge, friend to friend

So here’s my soft little reminder, the kind I’d give you over coffee.

If capturing your family in this season has been floating around in the back of your mind, this is your sign to go ahead and make it happen. Summer family sessions here in the Tuscaloosa and Northport area fill up faster than people think, between trips and camps and all the beautiful chaos. The sooner we get you on the calendar, the easier it is to find a time that actually works for your family’s rhythm.

And if summer is already a full one for you (if you weren’t aware, school starts in exactly one month!), let’s look ahead together.

Fall sessions tend to book up early, and those golden-light, sweater-weather mornings are some of my favorites of the whole year. And that golden fall light is *chef’s kiss*! Planning ahead now means one less thing to scramble for later, and a spot saved for the season your family will be in then.

Something I’ve been dreaming up

I’ll let you in on something I’ve been turning over in my heart lately.

So much of what I love about this work is the in-between. Not the big posed smile, but the moment right before it. The kid tucked under a parent’s arm. The pancake breakfast that turns into a mess and a memory. The ordinary Tuesday that you’d never think to photograph, but that you’d give anything to relive in twenty years.

So I’ve been imagining a different kind of summer session. One where I simply come spend part of a day with your family and document it as it really is. A normal day, or a fun one. Breakfast in pajamas, a trip to your favorite park, popsicles on the back steps, dinner together as a family on the deck: the whole beautiful, unscripted rhythm of your people just being together. No stiff poses, no pressure to perform. Just your real life, gently witnessed and saved.

It’s something I’m still shaping, and I’d genuinely love to know if it speaks to you. If the idea of having your everyday summer captured exactly as it is makes your heart do a little flutter, tell me. You might just help me bring it to life.

Either way, there’s no pressure here. Just an open invitation to slow down, even for an hour, and capture the people you love most exactly as they are right now.
